I have a 80 TransAm that I am trying to put back together! At some point in
time the air conditioner was removed and a homemade firewall blower cover
was installed. There is one hose from the water pump to the heater coil and
the other hose from the heater coil to the back of the intack manafold, My
question souldn't there be some sort of bypass so your not pumping hot water
thru the heater coil all the time?

Thanks for any help on this

That would have been a good thing for GM to do but they did not so hot
water circulates through the heater core all the time. I installed a
vacumn operated cutoff valve made for a pontiac Bonneville that shuts
off the flow. I attached it to the vacumn line that closes the fresh
air cowl door. The cowl door closes when you turn the AC to the MAX
setting. So, at least when its warm enough to run the AC on MAX it
reduces the under dash heat load by cutting off the water to the
heater core.
